Parc de la Villette Honors 35th Anniversary With Celebrations In Paris
03 April 2018
The 35th anniversary of the designation of Bernard Tschumi as winner over 472 other contestants in the historic competition for the Parc de la Villette was celebrated in Paris on 24-25 March 2018. Tschumi’s 1983 victory in the second stage of the competition, which inaugurated a series of Grand Projet building projects by the French government, resulted in an “urban park for the 21st Century” that is now world-famous. Today, the Parc de la Villette welcomes over 10 million visitors annually.
The weekend of celebrations included a discussion between Bernard Tschumi and Jack Lang, formerly Minister of Culture, as well as Jean Nouvel and Christian de Portzamparc, on Saturday, March 24. Activities spread throughout the park and its cultural buildings. Tens of thousands of visitors came on a sunny weekend of concerts that ended with a visit by the current Minister of Culture, Françoise Nyssen.
