The Best Architecture of 2019
12 February 2020
The London Times has just named Bernard Tschumi Architects’ Museum in Tianjin one of the best buildings of the year:

“In brief: Thinking big
Another wildly outside-of-the-box creation in the Middle Kingdom, this enormous museum consists of a series of giant copper-coloured cones that allude to the chimneys of the port city’s manufacturing past but which exert a titanic draw all of their own. In the largest of these, a spiralling ramp leads to viewing platform on the roof, perhaps riffing on Frank Lloyd Wright’s Guggenheim Museum, whilst others showcase impressively huge items of contemporary technology such as space rockets.”

Other winners include the Qatar National Museum by Jean Nouvel, the renovation of TWA Terminal by Eero Saarinen and the New York Shed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro.
