The innovative design—an experimental arts center and school near Lille, France—famously repurposed a 1920s leisure complex by covering it with a giant metal canopy. The strategy of the big roof protected and supported the existing buildings while generating novel juxtapositions and movement vectors, including the creation of an in-between space of suspended catwalks.
